Over the last few months, our team has been dedicated to revitalising school halls, ensuring they are safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone as buildings prepare to re-open. One of our most recent projects focused on school floor sanding and restoration at a local educational facility, a task that required careful planning, attention to detail, and expert craftsmanship.

The school hall in question had seen many years of daily use. As a central space for assemblies, sports, and events, the wooden floor had become tired and worn. The lacquer finish was dull and discoloured, and heavy foot traffic had left numerous scratches, scuffs, and marks across the surface. With pupils soon to return, the school management recognised the need for professional school floor sanding to restore the floor to its former glory.
Our technicians began the floor sanding process by conducting a thorough inspection of the area, identifying any particular concerns or areas requiring extra attention. Using professional-grade sanding equipment, including a large belt sander for the main area and an edging sander for the perimeters, we methodically removed the old lacquer and surface imperfections. We worked through progressively finer grit levels, starting with 60 grit, followed by 80, and finishing with 100 grit—to ensure a smooth, even surface free from scratches and blemishes.

Preparation and Line Marking
Once the floor sanding was complete and all edge work was finished, we carefully vacuumed and cleaned the area to remove all dust and debris. We primed the floor first using a water based primer. As requested by the client, we then taped out the designated areas for line marking. Precise line marking is essential in school halls, especially for sports activities and events, so we ensured all lines were measured and applied according to the school’s specifications.
After the line markings were painted, we allowed sufficient drying time to guarantee a crisp and professional finish.

Finishing Touches: Durable Lacquer Application
The final step in this school floor sanding project was the application of a hard-wearing, two-component lacquer. This type of lacquer offers excellent durability and protection, making it ideal for high-traffic environments like school halls. We applied two generous coats, allowing each layer to cure properly to maximise longevity and enhance the natural beauty of the wood.

Results and Client Satisfaction
The transformation was remarkable. The restored school hall floor looked fresh, vibrant, and inviting, with all scratches and imperfections removed. Not only has the appearance been greatly improved, but the new lacquer finish also offers superior protection against future wear and tear, ensuring the hall remains in excellent condition for years to come.
