Wood Floor Refinishing – Birmingham University

Beaver Floorcare were engaged by Novus Solutions and Birmingham University to carry out wood floor refinishing to the oak floor in the Duck and Scholar within the Vale Student Village. The floor had suffered badly from heavy foot traffic and deep scratches from dragging/moving of sofas and furniture.

Our process for restoring the surface involved the use of belt sanding, edgework, corners and detail, klindex timba and the festool rotex for some areas. The scratches were deep so we had a fair amount of 36 grit cutting to remove the amount of timber required, this was then followed on by using 60, 80 & 100 grits to achieve the smooth faultless finish.

We water popped the fibres and finally coated the oak flooring with Eukula Extreme 473 which is an exceedingly hard wearing 2 component wood floor lacquer. The floor received 4 coats given the nature of the environment.

Our aftercare service has provided the correct cleaning materials and a maintenance contract to ensure the floor is kept to a high standard and does not degrade over the coming years.

The university estates team are absolutely thrilled with the results and could not believe such a transformation could be achieved.
